2013 Mission Trip Reflections -- Obasi Lewis

What I took from the mission trip experience was inspiration to do more. During the week in Jamaica we saw videos of the founders of Next Step ministries and their journey. The video series was about them climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and the mission work they did and the people they met leading up to the climb.

One story I remember is the story of the American couple who founded a recycled-bead-jewelry making business, which provided money for the woman of the Rwandan village they moved to. The reason I remembered that story is that we got to take some bead bracelets home and every time I put it on, I think of the people, who changed their way of living, relocated their family and quit their amazing jobs, to make others lives better.

But back to the founders of Next Step, their journey inspired me to do more. To make a difference, not only in America, but in all the other countries of the world. The need is everywhere, we just have to offer our assistance.

Last Day on Work Site

Here is the picture of the mission trip team on their last day, Thursday the 25th, at the work site in Mo'Bay, Jamaica. Today for them is Free Day Friday where they will be visiting the famous Dunn's River Falls. After a long hard week doing construction on the recovery house, they deserve it!

And They Are Off .....!

Fundraising Breakfast

In case you're wondering how the 2013 Youth Mission trip is fairing in their fundraising efforts, they are getting there but have a ways to go. They've raised about $10,000 so far but still need about $6,000. There is an opportunity for you to help support their financial goal and it's coming up on Saturday, June 8th from 8:00AM - 10:00AM at the Brooklyn Center Applebee's (near the old Brookdale Mall).

Applebee's restaurant and their staff will host a pancake breakfast on behalf of the mission trip team. You can support simply by purchasing a $10 ticket and planning to attend (for each $10 ticket sold, $5 will go towards the mission trip). For tickets, see any one of the mission trip team members (Rev. Karen McKinney, Catrice Williams, James Barnett, JaWan Brown, Jessica Broaden, Obasi Lewis, Symone Kimbrough, Lydia Vickers, Destini Starr, Chanda Dennis, Charnelle Snetter, Latrice Jackson, Julian Jones and Mackenzie Jones)

And no, the kid's won't be cooking or serving your meal (and that's probably best). Applebee's staff will take care of all that. The menu is pancakes, eggs and bacon...the typical breakfast fare.

If you're not able to attend the breakfast, but still want to support the youth financially, please feel free to use online giving tool (there is a link on the church website at ( www.fellowshipmb.org ), or you can write a check to put in the offering plate on Sunday (just be sure to write "Mission Trip" in the memo line and/or on the outside of your envelope). If you want to support a specific youth, then feel free to give the check or cash directly to that individual. And as we have said repeatedly, we don't want you to forsake your tithe in giving a donation to the trip. We appreciate that anything you give is a sacrificial offering and we thank you in advance!

We love you and God bless you for your continued support of the FMBC Children & Youth Ministry.
